La formazione del Past Progressive

Per formare il Past Progressive, si combina il verbo ausiliare "to be" al passato ("was" o "were") con il verbo al gerundio (forma -ing). Ecco alcuni verbi al passato continuo. Questo vi darà un'idea più precisa del passato continuo.

L'uso del Past Progressive

Il Past Progressive si usa in inglese quando si vuole descrivere uno stato, un'azione o un processo del passato che è durato per un periodo di tempo. Lo scopo di questo tempo passato inglese è quello di sottolineare che nel passato si è verificato uno stato di cose continuo.

Il Past Progressive è spesso usato per descrivere un'azione di fondo che è stata interrotta da un'altra azione nel passato.
