Our School in Brighton

Our language school in Brighton is located at Falmer on the outskirts of Brighton, within easy reach of London and major international airports at Gatwick and Heathrow. With the South Downs on our doorstep, we're well-served by train, bus and road while cycling is also popular. We are nine minutes from Brighton, an hour from London and 30 minutes away from an international airport.

You will be taught in small groups of no more than 15 students. Our dedicated teachers specialise in making the lessons interesting and attractive so that you can really make progress. All teaching materials are provided for the duration of the course.

There is a store and spaciouse cafeteria inside the campus so students do not have to leave the campus to buy everything they need.

During the high season, some lessons take place at our summer school, about 30 minutes from the residence by public transport. However, the courses for the student language trips are mainly held in our buildings in Holland Road and Queens Road. During the summer months, you also have the opportunity to attend a college.

Travel and Transport

Bicycle: There are cycle lanes running all the way from Brighton city centre along Lewes Road (A270) to Moulsecoomb and on to Falmer. On campus there are plenty of covered cycle stands monitored by CCTV. Beryl BTN Bikes are available to hire across all our Brighton campuses with a 25% student discount.

Bus: The 24, 25, 28 and 49 run frequently from central Brighton. The number 24 links the Moulsecoomb campus with Varley Park halls of residence. For timetables and student fares visit the Brighton and Hove Bus Company website.

Train: The closest station is Moulsecoomb. There are up to four trains an hour from Brighton to Moulsecoomb (4 minutes) and two an hour direct to Eastbourne (40 minutes). You can get unlimited train travel around the city using the Unizone ticket. For timetables check National Rail Enquiries.

Our language programmes take place on the spacious Moulsecoomb campus of the University of Brighton. Moulsecoomb is two miles north of Brighton city centre. The campus has excellent travel links with Moulsecoomb train station just next door, frequent bus services and cycle lanes.

Course Details

Our Standard English course covers the four different skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) following our age appropriate coursebook and syllabus. You will also get the opportunity to work on your grammar, vocabulary and English pronunciation. Our Intensive courses provide additional practice. Communicative activities focussing on vocabulary building and speaking give students the opportunity to use their new language and skills. Classes may be of mixed level ability which also creates a supportive learning environment and the chance for students to help each other develop their English skills.
With our balanced curriculum and qualified teachers, you will have the opportunity to effectively learn every aspect of the English language, from grammar and comprehension to reading and writing. As you progress, your teachers will support and encourage you to gain confidence in your new language skills.

Beginners will also find the perfect language course with us. Before your trip begins, we will send you the link to our online test to determine your current language level. This means that you can start your language course on Monday.

After successfully completing your English course, you will receive your certificate of participation from Sprachcaffe. With this certificate, you can later prove that you have taken part in an English course in Brighton. A language course for students is definitely worthwhile!

The University of Brighton is a leading research-intensive university in Brighton, within easy reach of London and major international airports. Students on this programme benefit from excellent student accommodation and modern facilities.

Homestay /double room

Students can experience British culture and practice their English by sharing a home with a host family. 2-4 bedded rooms in carefully-selected host families. They will also have most or all of their meals provided by the family (lunch is a packed lunch). The bathroom is shared by the students and the host family. Full board is included (continental breakfast, packed lunch and dinner). All families have been visited by members of our school's staff and live in safe, comfortable neighbourhoods close to the school. Please note: the minimum age for host family accommodation is 14 years old.

New UK Visa Rules (ETA) for Visa-Exempt Travelers

Please be informed of an important update regarding entry requirements for visitors to the UK. Starting from April 2nd, travellers from countries that do not require a visa, including EU member states and Switzerland, will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK.

Key details:

• The new regulation will come into effect on April 2nd, 2024, for European visitors.

• Applications for the ETA can be submitted starting from March 5th, 2024.

Please ensure that all relevant staff are aware of this new requirement, especially when advising clients traveling to the UK or transiting via UK airports.
