However, the French language is spoken by roughly 80 million people in about 50 different countries around the world. Apart from the European states of France, Luxembourg and Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Senegal and the Côte d’Ivoire also have many French speaking areas.

Canada is the perfect place for your Gap Year language course as you can go on longer excursions and thereby explore this large and beautiful country.
Requirements for entering Canada
In order to enter Canada you will require a passport that will remain valid for the entire duration of your stay in Canada. Additionally you will also need to book the online-based travel permit "eTA" (electronic travel authorization). We also recommend that you apply for your permit at least 72 hours before you leave home to begin your journey. This is advised as the Canadian administration can not guarantee the timely processing of your documents unless you send your application off within the time mentioned above. The fee for travel permits is 7 CAD per person. Once you gain your eTA travel permit, it will be valid for 5 years. In order to apply and pay for your permit you will need a valid passport, an email address and a credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express).
If you stay in Canada for longer than 6 months you will need to apply for a VISA as well. You can apply for your entry clearance at the Canadian embassy and the Canadian consulate near you, which are both official foreign representative institutions of Canada.
You will also be able to book a language trip to Canada if you are 16 or 17 years old. If you are below the age of 18 you will need to answer questions about your travel circumstances. Another requirement is the permission letter given to you by your parents or proven guardians. This letter should contain your guardians' names and full contact details.
Travel insurance for Canada
If you are planning on staying for a longer period of time you need to ensure that you have a travel health insurance that is valid for the entire duration of your stay in Canada. You can inquire about this with the insurance company that you are registered with. In case you do not have a valid travel health insurance or if its validity runs out before you return from your travels, you will need to apply for an additional travel health insurance to cover your entire stay.
