The country is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. On the North Island you will find beautiful beaches, fields, vineyards, dormant volcanoes and volcanic lakes, hot springs, and glowworm caves. You will also find the iconic Shire and Hobbiton from the Lord of the Rings movies, for which New Zealand is world-famous. If you are in the country you cannot miss a visit to Auckland, the biggest city in New Zealand famous for its Sky Tower and the rugby stadium of the legendary All Blacks. More lakes, fjords, mountains, and glaciers are waiting for you on the South Island, which offers a large variety of outdoor activities. In addition to the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, 4.4 million Kiwis inhabit the island, New Zealanders of European descent.
