Frisian Islands

Situated on Germany 's north-western coast, the Frisian Isles reward those who have made the effort to go and see them. Most of the region belongs to a national park. It may be a good idea to steer clear of Sylt, overcome by wealthy tourists in search of beach resorts, and go on to Föhr or Amrum, both more peaceful, out of the tourist spotlight and with other attractions to offer, such as magnificent views of sun rays hitting the icy North Sea, walks along the many trails and horse or bike riding in the surrounds.

Out to sea lies Heligoland and visits to this island can be made into a fun excursion lasting for one or two days. It was used as a submarine base during World War II and nowadays you can go and visit the fire resistant bunkers and underground tunnels.
