14 The Classic One does not always have to go to California or Florida to experience an incredible high school stay. Each state has its own charm. In our “classic” high school program, you are placed nationwide: your high school might be in southern Texas, in the Midwest or in northeast Oregon, or in the sunny states of California and Florida. Regardless of whether your school and shost family are in the city or on the countryside, you will get to live the typical American way of life. In high schools, word spreads quickly when international students arrive. It will not take long for you to meet people and build new friendships. Your host family will also welcome you with open arms and in the best possible way integrate you in their everyday family life. As soon as we have found a school and a host family for you, you will receive the contact details of your host family and can get in touch with them before your arrival. An email or a Skype call will allow both sides to get a first impression of each other. SUBJECT SELECTION From the wide range of courses offered, students also take electives in addition to compulsory subjects and can choose according to their interests. There are many possibilities: world history, psychology, design, politics, statistics, sociology or languages such as Spanish, Latin and French are just a few examples. During one half of the school year – a semester – you have the same subjects in the same order every morning - once memorized, you can easily remember your schedule. You choose your subjects at the beginning of a semester. A school staff member, the guidance teacher or counselor will be happy to help you with this. Overall, the teachers at the high Schools are very committed and maintain good relation- ships with their students. In the United States, letters from A to F are used to assess your academic performance. The certifi- cates “Report Cards” in the USA are presented at the end of each semester. * In individual cases there may be individual departures due to specific flight connections.
