Study French in France

Between Monaco and Cannes, Nice makes learning French feel less like study and more like one of your best decisions. The Promenade des Anglais hugs the sea, while terracotta alleyways, the Cours Saleya flower market, and small bistros turn every lunch into a real language moment.

France's 5th-largest city and the cultural capital of the Côte d'Azur, Nice sits in the world's most-visited country (around 100 million international visitors in 2024, UN Tourism).

We make sure you experience the city, not just observe it. Excursions to Monaco (20 minutes by train), the Musée Matisse, beach volleyball, and crêpe evenings fill your weeks — and shared with fellow students, the friendships are as international as the classroom.

French courses in Nice, France

SPRACHCAFFE Nice offers four course formats for adults (18+), all following CEFR levels A1 (complete beginner) to C1 (advanced)

Every student takes a placement test on arrival to be assigned to the right group. The course ends with a certificate confirming the CEFR level studied and lessons completed.

How long does it take to learn French?

Reaching professional working proficiency (CEFR B2-C1) typically requires approximately 600 to 750 classroom hours. Standard progression milestones:

  • DELF A2 (elementary) - approximately 200 hours
  • DELF B1 (intermediate) - approximately 400 hours
  • DELF B2 (upper-intermediate, the level required for French university admission) - approximately 600-650 hours
  • DALF C1 (advanced) - approximately 800-900 hours

Intensive immersion at SPRACHCAFFE Nice - 30 lessons per week combined with daily real-world French exposure - compresses these timelines significantly compared with part-time home study.

Choose between:

Why a French course in Nice?

Beyond the language itself, French opens substantive opportunities:

  • University admission in France - the Sorbonne, Sciences Po, ENS, and the Grandes Écoles typically require DELF B2 or DALF C1
  • Erasmus+ mobility across the European Union for students
  • Career opportunities in diplomacy, international institutions (UN, NATO, EU, UNESCO, OECD), luxury industries (fashion, gastronomy), and Francophone Africa - a rapidly growing economic region
  • Cognitive benefits - peer-reviewed research consistently associates bilingualism with enhanced executive function (Bialystok, Craik & Luk, 2012, Trends in Cognitive Sciences)
  • Lifetime-valid certifications - DELF and DALF, issued by France Éducation international, never expire (unlike IELTS, TOEFL, TCF, or TEF, which expire after 2 years)
  • Gateway to other Romance languages - French shares around 75% of vocabulary with Italian and 65% with Spanish
