Accommodation in Spain
Other
Options
If
you prefer looking for an alternative form of accommodation, and
arranging this part of your language trip yourself, good ways
of finding possible lodging facilities include searching the
local newspapers, checking out notice boards in universities
or in real estate agencies.
Student
residences
Most
of the college students in Spain live in colegios mayores
(student residences) during the school year. Some universities
do not have student residences, but offer advice on finding
lodging through their international relations offices. Private
universities have staff at their own educational centres whose
job it is to help students with their accommodation arrangements.
Universities with student residences (better known as colegios
mayores in Spain), usually have limited vacancies, which
is why it is better to book as far in advance as possible.
Prices are similar to a boarding house and meals are usually
included. For more information regarding the Colegios Mayores,
can go to the Council of Student Residences website.
Finding an apartment
This
is another option, consulting local newspapers or getting
in touch with real estate agencies.
Most of the communities have a so called YOUNG HOUSE SERVICE,
where it is possible to obtain information on houses and a
list of apartments for young people to rent, at lower prices,
through an agreement with the owners. Special legal information
is also provided to those who need it. This service is available
to people between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
Hotels
For
those with higher budgets, hotels are another option, with
all categories available in all three cities.
Youth Hostels
While
looking for apartment or residence, an option is to stay at
a youth or student hostel. Currently, Spain has over 200 hostels,
with 17,304 beds. For more information, visit the Spanish
Network of Youth Hostels page.
